Kazan's Kremlin

Kazan has so much history. They just celebrated their millennium last year and are very proud of that...as they should be! Our COUNTRY is only 200 yrs. old and this city is over 1000 yrs. old. AMAZING!
This is the entrance to the Kremlin...the ancient walled city of Kazan.
This is the Christian church within the walls. Russians are predominately Russian Orthodox Christians.
This is the Mosque within the walls. This region (a state in US terms) is Tartarstan. Kazan is the capital city within this region. Tartars religion are predominately Muslim. I thought is was interesting that the Christians and the Muslims have "churches" so close to eachother. They were telling us that they are very friendly with eachother and have always respected the others beliefs for many many years.
This is the Tartar president's ( the govenor in US) building where he works within the walls also. I was glad we FINALLY got to do some site-seeing and could learn about Kazan to share with our "Tartar-tots" someday. :)
